Adios Sahara (2021-2023)
Adios Sahara questions our relationship with travel and the distorting cultural lens through which we perceive reality, which today shapes our collective unconscious. Through a journey to Morocco that I undertook in 2021, I confront in Adios Sahara two coexisting realities of this country dominated by ochre tones. On one side, there is the perfect exotic country long dreamed of and created by Western culture, materializing in heavily touristic regions like the dunes of Merzouga in the Sahara. On the other side, there is the real Morocco, often poor and raw, where street scenes bear witness to a complex culture, ultimately underrepresented or not represented at all in the Western collective unconscious.
Adios Sahara was exhibited during the summer of 2023 in Vevey, at the Espace Entre Deux-Gares, with the support of the Office of Culture of Vevey and the company Migros. Shortly after the exhibition, the project was granted a self-published publication of 100 copies.
